Cheltenham Flyer Centenary GWR 100th Anniversary

Not officially called the 'Cheltenham Flyer', the 'Cheltenham Spa Express' was introduced as a new afternoon service from Cheltenham to Paddington via Gloucester. The inaugural run on 9 July 1923 drew excited crowds to Paddington and our collectable celebrates the 100th Anniversary of this brand new service. It garnered the nickname 'Cheltenham Flyer' because it reached Paddington in 75 minutes from Swindon, with an average speed of 61.8 mph making it the fastest start-to-stop scheduled service in Britain at the time!

Our limited edition collectable features a painting of the famous flyer, along with an English Regional 2nd Class stamp and the Cheltenham Flyer 29p stamp from the 1985 Famous Trains issue.  It also has a special Inaugural Run of the Cheltenham Flyer 100 postmark for the 9th of July 2023. Definitely one for the collections because at one point in time this was the fastest train in the world!
