Susan Mathews has been Curator of The Stained Glass Museum since 1999 and was awarded the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for her contribution to the Visual Arts in 2009.
In the twenty years since she has been Curator, the Museum has grown and expanded to achieve a national reputation for it's excellence as a centre of stained glass.
Her early career was in teaching until she became captivated by stained glass, like many others, after a visit to Chartres Cathedral in France. She at once decided she had been 'called to stained glass' establishing her own studio, first in Leyland in Lancashire and then in Cambridge. It was whilst here that she was invited to take over the burgeoning Stained Glass Museum. She has established an exciting programme of school visits, workshops, study weekends and lectures which take place throughout the year.
