David Burke


David Burke, born 25th May 1934 in Liverpool) is an English actor, best known for playing Watson in the initial series of Granada Television's 1980s The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, which starred Jeremy Brett in the title role.

Burke was born in Liverpool, England and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He is married to Anna Calder-Marshall and their son Tom Burke is also an actor.

In the theatre he originated the part of Nils Bohr in Michael Frayn's Copenhagen. Other notable TV appearances include his turn as Stalin in the British serial Reilly, Ace of Spies and the John Wyndham story Random Quest.
