Alan Bentley has been working in museums for 17 years. Following the completion of a BA (hons) in History of Art, Design and Film at Sheffield Hallam University, he has worked at Quarry Bank Mill in Cheshire and the Bass Museum in Burton Upon Trent and as a museums advisor for Yorkshire and Humberside Museums Council and for the Museums Documentation Association. Alan has a postgraduate diploma in Museum Studies from Leicester University and became an Associate of the Museums Association in 1993.
Since 2001 Alan has been the Director of the Bronte Parsonage Museum, which is run by the Bronte Society. The Society is an independent charitable trust; it is the oldest literary society in the UK 1893 and has been running a museum since 1895. The Museum runs an active education programme, it is an international centre for Bronte studies and it attracts over 80,000 visitors a year from all over the world.
