Born 29th April 1940. Educated at Kings College School Wimbledon. Joined Royal Fleet Auxiliary 9th May 1957. Served continuously with the RFA for 43 years, retiring April 2000.
Served as Commanding Officer on all types of RFA for 20 years.
During the Falklands Conflict of 1982 commanded RFA SIR GALAHAD. After sterling service to the British Land Forces was bombed by Argentine aircraft and set on fire at Fitzroy whilst disembarking the Welsh Guards and Field Ambulance. There was a total of 56 personnel killed and over a hundred badly injured. The ship was eventually towed out to sea and sunk as a War Grave.
