The Right Reverend Michael Francis Perham was ordained as Bishop of Gloucester on 4th May 2004.
He was born in Dorchester in 1947, and studied theology in Oxford and served as a Curate, a Bishop's Chaplain, a Parish Priest and a Cathedral Canon before becoming Dean of Derby in 1998, where he served for the six years before going to Gloucester.
He has written many books of theology, liturgy and spirituality.
Among his national responsibilities are to be Chairman of the Hospital Chaplaincies' Council and Bishop Protector of the Anglican Franciscans. In 2007 the University of Gloucestershire, of which he is Pro-Chancellor, conferred an Honorary Doctorate on him.
He is married with four daughters.
