The 18th Duke of Norfolk is the foremost peer in the land and one of the most prominent supporters of the Catholic Church. He signed our covers in order to raise money for Westminster Cathedral, about which he cares passionately.
He comes from an old family steeped in the Roman Catholic Faith. His father represented the Queen at the funeral of Pope Paul IV, the installation and funeral of Pope John Paul I and the installation of Pope John Paul II.
Born on 2nd December 1956, Edward William Fitzalan-Howard also holds the subsidiary titles of Earl of Arundel (which makes him the Premier Earl of England), Earl of Surrey, Earl of Norfolk, Lord Beaumont, Baron Fitzalan, Baron Maltravers, and Baron Howard of Glossop. He enjoys skiing, motor-racing and shooting.
The Duke's famous ancestors include Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk, who manipulated two of his nieces, Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, into Henry VIII's affections and Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk, who plotted to marry Mary Queen of Scots.
