Richard Meade was the first equestrian sportsman to win an individual Olympic Gold Medal, which he did in Eventing in Munich in 1972. He also won team gold in Munich and in Mexico in 1968.
He won three European team golds, two world team golds and two individual world silver medals.
On retirement from competition sport he became president and chairman of the British Equestrian Federation and for eight years was a Bureau Member of the International Equestrian Federation.
He is currently chairman of the International Eventing Officials Club.
