Alex McLeish – a distinguished Scottish sportsman.
As a professional footballer, he achieved legendary status playing with Aberdeen Football Club during its 'glory years' in the 1980's. He made nearly 500 League appearances for the club and won 77 caps for Scotland.
Thereafter, he enjoyed a career in management with Motherwell FC and Hibernian FC before guiding Rangers FC to two Championship and five Cup wins. In 2007 Alex McLeish was the much praised manager of the Scotland national team which although achieving some dramatic performances, narrowly failed to qualify for the Finals of the 2008 UEFA European Championship. In the same year he moved into the English Premier League as manager of Birmingham City Football Club.
In July 2008 he was honoured by the University of Aberdeen and was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa.
