Born 24 August 1945, son of John Mackay-Dick and Margaret Edith Mackay-Dick (nee Forty). Married in 1971 to Carolynn Hilary Homes and have three daughters. Commissioned into the Scots Guards, 1965; served Malaysia, Borneo, Germany, Falkland Islands, Cyprus and UK to 1986; Commandant, Junior Division Staff College, Warminster, 1986-88; Commander 11 Armoured Bde, 1989-91; Dep. Mil. Sec. (A), 1991-92; GOC 1st Armoured Division, Verden, 1992-93; GOC Lower Saxony Dist, Verden, 1993; Comdr British Forces Falkland Islands, 1993-94; GOC London Dist and Major General commanding Household Division, 1994-97.
