Sir Robin Knox-Johnston CBE RD*

 

Sir Robin was born on 17th March 1939 and educated at Berkhamsted School, Hertfordshire. He joined the Merchant Navy in 1957 and passed the Master's Certificate in 1965.

14 June 1968 to 22 April 1969, achieved the first ever single handed non stop circumnavigation of the world, 312 days alone at sea. 1994, won the Jules Verne Trophy for the fastest circumnavigation of the world 74 days.

2006 – 2007, competed in the Velux5oceans solo around the world yacht race finishing 4th.

3 times Yachtsman of the Year, 1969, 1994 and 2007.

1995 International Yachtsman of the Year.

1993 – 2001 Trustee of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.

1994 – 2002 President of the Sail Training Association.

1996 – 2002 Member, English Sports Council and Sports Lottery.
