Sally Gunnell was British heroine of the 1992 Olympics, winning a gold medal in the 400-metre hurdles. She became world champion and world record holder for the same event in 1993. Her success continued in 1993, when she became world champion and world record holder in the 400-metre hurdles (with a time of 52.74 seconds) and was awarded an MBE. A leg injury destroyed her 1996 Olympics hopes and she retired from sport. She is the author of a book, "Running Tall" (1994), about her career and continues to be a household name and inspiration to millions.
