In 2008 Nicole became Olympic Champion in the Road Race at the Beijing Olympics reaching the pinnacle of her sport. It was an epic 78 mile race beginning in the heart of Beijing city passing historic monuments such as Tiananmen Square as the peleton made their way to the finishing circuits on the Great Wall of China. Under torrential rain, Nicole sprinted to glory from a group of 5 riders to win Wales' first gold medal for 36 years and Great Britain's 200th in the history of the Olympic Games. "It was a dream come true for me, in all the difficult moments in the last year I always kept on believing that it was possible and now I feel like the happiest person in the world right now!"
Just 6 weeks later Nicole won the World Road Race Championships to become the first road rider, male or female, ever to win both titles in the same season. This is the peak of a successful career which has also included Commonwealth Games Gold, the World No. 1 Ranking, World Cup Series, Tour de France and Giro D'Italia stage races and an unprecedented 4 World Championships in the Junior category.
