My Autumn Holiday to Malta
I am just back from a sneaky autumn holiday to Malta and included in this was a few days in Valletta, and as a stamp dealer I had to include a visit to their new postal museum (http://www.maltapostalmuseum.com/)
Spread over three floors it seemed to include something for everyone from the serious collector through to a chance to dress up as a postman! Included are a near complete range of Maltese stamps on display plus some interesting areas covering military mail and disinfecting mail to try and stop the plague.
As a cover man I was especially interested in a piece of early maritime mail sent to Deal in Kent and two signed Nelson letters.
There are also some interesting films (in English) giving background on the island’s history and stamps. They even put an unscheduled show of one of them on especially for me, even though they were getting ready for an art show the next day. So a big thank you to Lara and her museum team for looking after me so well, and if you are in Valletta make sure you visit.
Also worth knowing is that their gift shop is also a working post office, and if you ask them nicely they will hand-stamp your letters and postcards for you with a museum cancel on the day of your visit and then you can pop them in their special red post-box.
All the best
