Flying Scotsman is an A3 Pacific class locomotive designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. It was built in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) and became famous for being the first locomotive to officially achieve a speed of 100 miles per hour in 1934.
Both Sir Nigel Gresley and Flying Scotsman were associated with the LNER during the Big Four grouping era.
