Barnes Wallis signed RAF covers
Barnes Wallis (1887-1979) was an English engineer & inventor best known for inventing the bouncing bomb used in the Dambusters Raid. The inspiration for the idea came in 1942 as Wallis was skipping marbles over water tanks in his garden, leading to his ground-breaking paper ‘Spherical Bomb-Surface Torpedo’. Wallis also developed the 10-ton Grand Slam ‘earthquake bomb’, a forerunner of modern bunker busting bombs, which were used on reinforced targets including V-2 launch sites & submarine pens.
