Archibald Primrose, Earl of Rosebery signed 1899 letter
Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery signed handwritten letter dated 16th March 1893 from his house at Berkeley Square. He writes to invite the recipient to meet a guest at his home.
Primrose was a Liberal Prime Minister from March 1894 – June 1895. Primrose had strong Imperialist beliefs and coined the phrase ‘Commonwealth of Nations’, but the cornerstone of his foreign policy, a large expansion of the navy, was defeated by the deep divisions in his own party. His domestic reforms fared little better with his efforts blocked by the Unionist opposition. He was one of the original Rhodes trustees whose goal is to find and develop exceptional people to create real change in the world.
