For the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Panama Canal, Panama Line commissioned three sister ships to run weekly services between New York and the Canal; the SS Panama, SS Ancon, and SS Cristobal. They were designed with state of art innovations and marketed as luxurious ships with just over 200 first-class passengers on board.
