Ferdinand West VC signed 1978 Tribute cover for the 60th anniversary of his Victoria Cross.

RAF Captain in No. 8 Squadron during WWI who was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1918. He undertook a daring mission to gain information on enemy positions before a major army offensive. Despite facing heavy fire, he only returned to his own lines once he had recorded all the information. His left leg had five wounds and had to be amputated.
