Thomas Blood was born in 1618 County Clare, he was an Anglo-Irish officer and self styled colonel.  He earned himself a reputation as a rogue, switching sides during the First English Civil War from the Royalist forces to become a lieutenant in Oliver Cromwell's Roundheads.
