HMY Britannia Decommissioning 25th Anniversary

25th Anniversary of the Decommissioning of HMY Britannia

HMY Britannia Decommissioning 25th Anniversary

During her decommissioning on 11 December 1997, it is reported that The Queen shed a tear during the touching ceremony; HMY Britannia must have held many memories for the family. During her 43 year history she travelled more than a million nautical miles around the world.

Since 1954, HMY Britannia conveyed the Queen and other members of the Royal Family, including dignitaries to an amazing 696 foreign visits and 272 visits in British waters. The final mission that she would undertake was conveying the last Governor of Hong Kong, Chris Patten and the Prince of Wales back from Hong Kong after a handover to the People’s Republic of China on 1 July 1997.

It has been 25 years since this emotional farewell and we mark it with this collectable displaying the Royal Yacht proudly, postmarked in Edinburgh, and with an In Memoriam stamp, commemorating both The Queen and her beloved yacht.
