King George IV (1762 - 1830) is well known as The Regent King, due to the ill health of his father, King George II.  A regency crisis in 1788 had bought into question the need for a regent though there were concerns as to the appointment of the Prince, as he had proved to be extravagant in his spending and had previously married Maria Fitzherbert in 1785 without royal consent, which had marriage the marriage null and void.
