Robert Stephenson & Co. Locomotive Works, 200th Anniversary

Join us as we celebrate 200 years of the Robert Stephenson & Co. Locomotive works, famous for the 'Locomotion No.1', 'Rocket' and 'Planet' engines. Robert Stephenson was the only son of George Stephenson, the "Father of Railways", he built on the achievements of his father and has been called the greatest engineer of the 19th century. His ideas led to the massive expansion of the railways during what was termed the 'railway mania' which occurred in the mid 1800s. His engineering expertise helped establish the concept of the railway which developed in the UK, and then his ideas were also exported to the rest of the world.

Our limited edition collectable features an English Regional stamp and South Street Newcastle-Upon-Tyne postmark issued 23rd June 2023.
