1971 Strike collection of 34 covers all nicely written up by the previous collector. Also includes the four stamp booklets for 10p, 25p, 30p & 50p values, a mint set of stamps and a letter & original notice relating to the strike & issuing of first day covers. The covers include first day covers with the set of 12 stamps plus booklet and coil first day covers, all of which were released on the same day (15th February 1971).
The 1971 postal strike was the first full national strike in Post Office history. The strike lasted from Wednesday 20th January to Sunday 7th March. Decimal Day occurred during the strike on the 15th February but some post offices, mainly small village offices, remained open allowing collectors to acquire covers with first day CDS postmarks. We have a good selection of these available which catalogue at £35.
