The 1971 postal strike was the first full national strike in Post Office history. The strike lasted from Wednesday 20^th January to Sunday 7^th March. Decimal Day occurred during the strike on the 15^th February but some post offices, mainly small village offices, remained open allowing collectors to acquire covers with first day CDS postmarks.
