The 1971 postal strike was the first full national strike in Post Office history. The strike lasted from Wednesday 20th January to Sunday 7th March. Decimal Day occurred during the strike on the 15th February but some post offices, mainly small village offices, remained open allowing collectors to acquire covers with first day CDS postmarks.
