1963 Dover Philatelic Society Collection

1963 Dover Philatelic Society Collection

1963 Dover Philatelic Society Collection

The Dover Philatelic Society produced several covers to celebrate the Tercentenary of the Dover Post Office in 1963. A special Dover postmark was also produced and this can be found on first day covers for the Paris Postal Conference release on the 7th May 1963. This collection are not first days but comprises the biggest variety of the illustrated covers the society produced that we have ever seen.

In total you will receive 29 covers produced by the society. Of these 17 have the Dover Tercentenary special postmark, with the other 12 having a Dover CDS. The postmark dates are from either the 6th, 7th or 8th May; corresponding with the society’s exhibition on the 6th & 7th plus the actual Post Office anniversary on the 8th May.

All of the 29 covers have a 2 1/2d value stamp – either the 1952 Wilding, 1957 Scouts, 1962 National Productivity Year, or the 1963 Freedom From Hunger stamp. The range of illustrations are impressive, including Dover from the Pent, St Mary-in-the-Castle, The Guildhall, Traction Engines, West Market Place, The Ship Inn, Peverell’s Tower, The Royal Chapel, Round-Down Cliff, St Radigund’s Abbey and The New Hotel.

These covers would sit nicely either alongside either a special event postmark collection or as an addition to the 1963 Paris Conference first day covers. At less than £ 9 each they are great value too.
