1953 MV Celebes Wreck Mail
1953 MV Celebes wreck mail. A fire broke on 29th April in the mailroom whilst she was docked in New York and bound for Indonesia. Of 295 mail bags aboard, 25 were completely destroyed and a further 18 damaged by fire, with the majority of the rest damaged by water as the fire was extinguished. This Artcraft illustrated United Nations FDC is just one of what is believed to be between 10 and 19 known covers to have survived. It has the delayed cachet applied by the New York Post Office.
