1952 1½d & 2½d Wildings, Wallsend slogan

5th December 1952 1½d & 2½d Wildings with a Wallsend, Northumberland slogan. 35th Philatelic Congress of Great Britain, North of England Philatelic Association illustrated cover. Neatly opened along the top and a handwritten address, but this is a scarce illustration to find postmarked on the first day.

These were the first Queen Elizabeth II stamps. The Wilding series of definitive stamps were based on a photo taken by Dorothy Wilding, featuring the Queen in a three-quarter pose wearing a diamond diadem. They were produced from 1952 until being replaced by the Machin in 1967.
