1st October 1948 £1 Brown with Fenchurch Street, EC3 CDS. Plain cover and typed address to Old Postman's Cottage in Alciston, Sussex. Arrival backstamp from Polegate, Sussex 2nd October. A few toning spots on the cover but not affecting the stamp. £350 catalogue value.

The £1 Brown was one of six George VI High Values issued during his reign. Released on 1st October 1948, it replaced the £1 Silver Wedding stamp which was withdrawn the previous day. Its lifespan was relatively short with 906,160 issued before the arrival of the 1951 £1 definitive.
