The £1 Brown was one of six George VI High Values issued during his reign. Released on 1^st October 1948, it replaced the £1 Silver Wedding stamp which was withdrawn the previous day. Its lifespan was relatively short with 906,160 issued before the arrival of the 1951 £1 definitive.
