1943 SS City of Baroda wreck mail with damaged by seawater cachet.
The British cargo ship was travelling as part of Convoy NC-9 on route from London to Calcutta, when she was torpedoed by U509 on 2nd April. She was carrying 7,00 tons of cargo, 1,500 mail bags & 230 passengers. She was towed to Luderitz Bay, Southwest Africa & grounded on 7th April, being declared a total loss. A small amount of mail was recovered and had this special cachet applied.
