1931 Graf Zeppelin Iceland - Germany flight with the green flown cachet. With two Icelandic stamps overprinted “Zeppelin/1931”, which were only issued for use on this flight. Friedrichshafen arrival datestamp from 3rd July. Postcard features an illustration of the Thórsmörk Mountains (named after the Norse god Thor).
On 30th June 1931, the LZ127 Graf Zeppelin departed Friedrichshafen for a flight to Reykjavik, Iceland. Mail was exchanged in Reykjavik and the Graf arrived back to Friedrichshafen on 3rd July. Outbound mail typically bears a Friedrichshafen 30th June or on-board cancel. Mail dropped in Reykjavik should bear a Reykjavik 1st July arrival cancel, of which three types can be found. A green Islandfahrt cachet was applied to mail carried on the flight. Icelandic mail on the return voyage typically features Icelandic stamps overprinted “Zeppelin/1931” which were issued only for use on this flight.
