1924 Germany - USA, ZR3 Zeppelin Flight
1924 Friedrichshafen, Germany - Lakehurst, New Jersey flown card. Illustration of the Zeppelin over the Statue of Liberty. This was the ZR3 first transatlantic flight. Flown on ZR3 cachet and a 15th October New York arrival backstamp.
The Treaty of Versailles forbade Germany from constructing airships capable of trans-Atlantic services. However the USA allowed the construction of the ZR3, which became the USS Los Angeles, as part of Germany's war reparations. It went on to be the longest serving US Navy airship.
