1914 ½d Postage Due, Evesham CDS

20th April 1914 ½d Postage Due with an Evesham CDS. A good condition postcard and a neat handwritten address. Catalogued by Bradbury at £800.

On 20th April 1914 the first set of GB postage dues were released. The set was printed on security paper watermarked with George V’s cypher, and comprised of four values, the ½d Emerald, 1d Rose, 2d Black & 5d Orange-Brown. The term ‘postage due’ is used for mail which was sent with insufficient postage. A postage due stamp was added to the mail to indicate the extra postage needed to be paid by the recipient. Postage due stamps remained in use in Great Britain until their withdrawal in 2000.
