The 1858 Penny Red now had plate numbers and featured letters in each corner to identify the plate and position of each stamp during printing; and by this time each stamp was perforated. The range of plate numbers used varied from 71 to 225, excluding 69, 70, 75, 126, and 128 which do not exist. There are certain plates which are very scarce, such as plate 225 which would fetch £700, & the hardest to find plate 77 which catalogues at a mere £160,000! To put these values into context, there were only 3 million printed on plate 225 out of 13.4 billion total Penny Reds.
