The RMS Queen Mary was an ocean liner built for the Cunard-White Star Line by John Brown & Company in Clydebank. She was in service from 1936 to 1967 and primarily operated on the transatlantic route. She sailed on her maiden voyage on May 27th 1936 and had achieved the Blue Riband by August; holding it for the majority of the next 15 years. During WWII she was converted into a troopship carrying soldiers from America, Australia & New Zealand to the UK. Following a major refurbishment, she returned to passenger services after the war but with the advent of the jet engine she was retired in 1967. The Queen Mary departed Southampton on her final voyage on October 31st 1967 to the port of Long Beach, California where she remains moored to this day.
