1912 1½d Brown, Stamp Exhibition Jubilee postmark
15th October 1912 1½d Brown with a Stamp Exhibition Jubilee International special postmark and R.C.King cachet address. £850 catalogue value.
Following the printing issues with the Downey Head, which had been issued for the 1911 Coronation, the King decided his head needed to be replaced with a true profile. From 1912 a new ‘Oak and Laurel Leaves’ framed design replaced the Downey Head stamps. The profile of the King was based from Mackennal’s coins and medals, with multiple values issued from 1912 to 1913. They are all rare on a first day cover, with the values above the 3d exceptionally scarce.
The 1 1/2d Brown (15th October 1912) & 2 1/2d Blue (18th October 1912) can be found with a special postmark from International Stamp Exhibition Jubilee, which was held at the Royal Horticultural Hall in London from the 14th to 19th October.
