DID YOU KNOW
An interesting aspect of the Great Eastern Railway is its association with the famous author Charles Dickens. In fact, the railway played a significant role in inspiring Dickens' novel "Great Expectations." The scenes in the book where Pip meets the convict Magwitch in the marshes were influenced by Dickens' own experience of witnessing a group of escaped convicts on the railway during his travels. This connection adds a fascinating literary dimension to the history of the Great Eastern Railway.
