When Steam Railway Magazine was launched in 1979, railway publishing changed forever.Thirty years on, we worked with the world's biggest selling steam magazine to mark their anniversary with a limited edition cover.

Like the preservation movement the magazine serves, this cover will stand the test of time!

Each cover was collected from a travelling post office at Quorn on the Great Central Railway, delivered at speed - by steam.

This happened during the Steam Railway gala in October 2009 at Great Central Railway – where an exciting line up of motive power includeed three visiting engines and Oliver Cromwell.

What makes our Steam Railway magazine cover so terrific?

What is a "cachet"?

A cachet is a specially designed rubber stamp. It is NOT a postmark. Postmarks can only be applied by official Post Offices where as anyone can design a cachet and put it on their cover. A cachet makes a cover unique and tells its story. In the case of railway covers, cachets are applied to certify that a cover has been carried on a certain train, line or during a special event.
