A Quick History

Our resident rail expert, Sarah Bush writes: "This was a time of rivalry between the LMS & LNER. The latter had captured the British Railway speed record but the LMS went out to take it from them, and hoped to do it with the Coronation Scot. I find this class to be similar in style to the LNER A4 Pacifics, like the Mallard, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the LMS Coronation class were built as a response to the LNER." She adds, "I make no apologies if my 'inner anorak' makes an occasional appearance!"
