Multi-Signed Dambusters![]() The DambustersOn 21 March 1943 at RAF Scampton, 617 Squadron was formed to carry out a single special and incredibly dangerous task - to attack three major dams on the Ruhr in Germany: The Mohne, Eder and Sorpe. "Operation Chastise" has since become a legend in the annals of military history and it possess all the traditionally admired attributes of originality, surprise and heroism coupled with a very dramatic outcome. Operation Chastise took place on 17 May 1943 and was carried out using Barnes Wallis' infamous 'Bouncing Bombs" carried inside Lancaster Bombers.
