The Great Little Trains of Wales![]() This is something rather special and will be appeal to rail enthusiasts everywhere! To coincide with the Celebrating Wales stamps in February 2009, we’re producing this charming Stamp Sheet Presentation Pack to celebrate the Great Little Trains of Wales. The main illustration on the sheet is from a painting by renowned railway artist Terence Cuneo and all 10 railways are featured on the sheet in the form of a label with the Welsh Dragon stamp. These delightful little steam railways (we’re working with all 10!) travel through some of the most beautiful countryside in Wales - if not the British Isles. Some have been working for over 100 years and are still going strong! Most of them were originally used to carry slate from the quarries to the sea. The Ten railways featured are: Talyllyn, Llanberis, Festiniog, Welsh Highland (Caernarfon), Welshpool and Llanfair, Vale of Rheidol, Brecon Mountain, Bala Lake, Welsh Highland (Porthmadog) and Snowdon Mountain. Our SignatureWe are very pleased to be able to offer our sheet signed by Rail journalist Peter Johnson. Peter has written 27 books since 1984 and has compiled the narrow gauge railway news column for Steam Railway Magazine since 1995. After 29 years of producing the Festiniog Railway Society’s quarterly Magazine, he was appointed the Festiniog Railway Company’s official photographer, an honorary position, in 2003. His recent books on the Festiniog and Welsh Highland Railways have been very well received, leading to the second edition of his book "An Illustrated History of the Welsh Highland Railway" being published by the Oxford Publishing Co in April 2009. Frame Yours for the Wall! These sheets are so irresistible that we know many of you will frame them for the wall. That way, they also make stunning presents. We don't offer our sheet framed at the moment but we do offer it mounted, ready to frame. That leaves you free to choose a frame YOU like and that suits your colour scheme. Each sheet is lovingly mounted by hand here and sent to you carefully. The mount is cream - nice and neutral, to work with whatever colour of frame you choose. The mount will not cause any damage to your stamp sheet, allowing you to frame it for the wall without risking your investment. The sheets simply slip into the mount without need for damaging tape. Choosing the mounted options makes the sheet into an even more beautiful gift. We will be offering a signed version of this sheet, but as it’s still early days, we can’t tell you who it will be yet, so stay tuned! If you are a member of one of our Sheet Clubs, this sheet will be automatically reserved for you.
Our New Presentation PacksYou will notice that our sheets have a new format, which we hope you will like. They are now referred to as Sheet Presentation Packs. The sheets themselves will remain the same, however they will now come in a plastic pocket with a presentation card. The presentation card gives information about the sheet and is also your guarantee that the sheets are genuinely printed by Royal Mail. These are exclusive to us - people who buy our sheets through Royal Mail won't get presentation cards! We are charging £2 extra to cover the cost of the Presentation Packs for one-off sales but club member prices will freeze at £24.95. One more reason to join one of our Sheet Clubs - so what are you waiting for, sign up today!
