50 years on, the Mini is a true design classic.

The iconic little car is loved by millions. Every small car on the road has been influenced by it and more than 5 million were built at Longbridge and Cowley.

Mini has become a legend over the last half century and is just as popular as ever. Here's to the next 50 years!

The term "cover" goes right back to the very start of the postal service. It was another word for an envelope. When the Victorians first started sending letters, they wrapped them up in paper (the "cover") and wrote the address on that. In 1840, a Penny Black was stuck on a cover to put in the post and cancelled on that day. This was the start of the "first day cover" and they have been collected ever since.

We still use the word "cover" to refer to a collectable envelope. Of course, more specifically there are two types of cover: first day covers and commemorative covers.

Heritage Motor Centre Official Covers

We are delighted to be officially working with the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon, the home of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust.

Three Monte Carlo Mini's and the first Cowley-produced production Morris Mini can be seen at the Heritage Motor Centre. These cars and others from the collection will help mark the 50th anniversary in a special exhibition and other Mini-themed events through the year.

This is a first day cover featuring the new set of 10 stamps from Royal Mail called Design Classics, released on 13 January 2009.

Signed Editions

In 1964, Paddy Hopkirk raced the Mini Cooper S through icy, twisty mountain passes of the Alps into the record books. He won the Monte Carlo Rally, one of the world's greatest races.

For the next four years, the little Mini was the King of rallying, winning two more Monte Carlos and numerous other prestigious rallies.
