How long have you been collecting?

My Aunt used to be post-mistress at a village post office in Rutland (and indeed her mother before her) - which they ran from the front room of their thatched-roof cottage. (Those were the days). I think when the 1966 England winners stamps came out she realised that stamps were fun and started sending them to me. I've collected mint stamps ever since. In 1969 I started collecting FDCs via the GPO (as it then was) and well remember my first ever cover landing on the doormat - the Concorde issue - still one of my favourites. So I have collected all new issues since and the first three RAF collections as much as my pocket money at the time would allow. Unfortunately work, family and other interests have left little time to be a really focussed collector, so I am looking forward to a few years time when I will no longer have to work and will have 40+ years of stamps & covers to organise and display - should keep me busy for a while.

Do you have a favourite theme or type of sheet or cover and if so, what is it that appeals to you about them?

I have always collected all of the new issues as they give such a good picture of the UK - our way of life and what we commemorate - both historically and culturally, plus all the other facets such as landscape, wildlife etc. I prefer stamps and covers which commemorate science and technology, architecture, physical endeavours and heroic deeds. I've only recently started collecting via Buckingham covers and I am branching out into building a collection of my favourite themes - only now signed Commemorative Covers. I think this will keep me interested for many years.

What's your favourite Buckingham Cover or Sheet and why?

Well I've probably not been collecting long enough to have a favourite Buckingham cover.

Do you enjoy being a club member?

I haven't been a member long, but already have had a number of Concorde covers as it is the 40th anniversary year. The club makes it easy to collect and the covers are all of such good quality. I find that having autographed ones just adds that little extra.

Any other comments you'd like to make?

I really like the friendliness and helpfulness of all your staff - makes such a change from the impersonal relationships you get with most companies now-a-days. Also such a great range of covers to choose from.
