England Retain the Ashes signed coverLATEST as of Thursday, 1 December 2011: The signed version of this cover is unfortunately delayed as at present we do not yet have a signatory. We will keep you updated and as soon as we have more news we will let you know Why do covers get delayed? The problem is, unlike nearly any other product in the world, covers are not only a labour of love and VERY labour intensive but also totally unreliable in terms of how quickly they are ready. To learn more about the nail-biting, hair-greying, heart-attack waiting to happen world of creating covers, see our article, "Producing a first day cover - what could possibly go wrong?. SignaturesFor example, what if a celebrity simply doesn't sign and doesn't sign? We will (very tactfully) chase them every few months (and every few weeks as the delay increased) but they are usually signing to raise money for charity and of course, are also very busy people. And at the end of the day, we can't force them to sign any faster (not unless we put a gun to their head and we don't like the idea of that much). The silver lining of this problem is . . . at least you know the signatures are genuine. And we believe that great autographs are worth the wait. We've raised over £600,000 for charity through our signed covers (including £60,000 for ChildLine and £32,000 for Great Ormond Street). We simply couldn't do this without the generosity of the celebrities who sign for us and collectors, like you, who buy the covers and who put up with us when it takes so long. PostmarksThe signature is just one reason why covers get delayed. Another reason is the postmarking. We can't do postmarking ourselves, of course - only an official Post Office can do that. We also like to get the best possible postmark and often our covers are sent to Post Offices all around the world for this. That means we are in the hands of the Post Office and how efficient they are ... which can vary a lot! It is especially bad luck if you send covers to France in the summer - their Postal Workers have 6 weeks holiday! Also, covers often end up caught up in customs which can again cause big hold ups. Is the cover or stamp sheet officially issued yet?We can't sell covers until the official Date of Issue but we take orders in advance. Sometimes this can be confusing and you may not realise you've placed an order for something not due to be released for several months. Underneath each product for sale in our shop (after our blurb about it but before you get to the list of product codes and prices at the end of the page), you'll find a "Quick Facts" line. This tells you the official issue date for that cover or stamp sheet. If we are advertising it pre-issue, the product will also be on our Coming Soon page. Is it expected to be ready yet?At the bottom of each product page is a list of product codes, descriptions and prices. If we know a cover won't be ready until after the official issue date, we put a little message for you beneath the product description saying "We hope this cover will be ready in whatever month". This is a useful guide for you but it is only our best guess, rather than being set in stone. It is often a "how long is a piece of string" situation. In worse case scenario, the cover may be later. If all goes well, it might be ready soon. As always, if you are worried, please contact us. The last thing we want is to let you down or upset you. Jump to: Covers currently delayed in production.
